DAX Futures Updates

Following a significant increase on Wednesday morning, German stocks reduced their gains as oil prices rose, recovering from a steep decline in the prior session. Investors analysed Germany’s retail sales and unemployment figures while anticipating a preliminary inflation report for September. Brent crude futures for December delivery increased to $97.70 a barrel, reflecting a 1% rise to $97.13 a barrel earlier. Lingering concerns regarding energy supply, stemming from insufficient advancements in U.S.-Iran negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, have kept the oil market in a state of considerable volatility.

The benchmark DAX, which climbed to 25,584.38, was down 16.97 points or 0.07% at 25,358.32 a few minutes before noon.

  • Commerzbank and SAP experienced declines of approximately 2.3% and 2.2%, respectively.
  • Continental, Hochtief, Allianz, Siemens Healthineers, Siemens Energy, Siemens, Hannover RE, Henkel, and Deutsche Telekom experienced declines ranging from 0.3% to 0.7%.
  • BMW, MTU Aero Engines, and Zalando experienced increases of 2.2% to 2.3%.
  • Fresenius, RWE, and Beiersdorf experienced increases of 1.5%, 1.3%, and 1.2%, respectively.
  • Rheinmetall, E.ON, Bayer, Merk, BASF, Volkswagen, Deutsche Post, Daimler Truck Holding, Qiagen, Brenntag, and Mercedes-Benz experienced increases ranging from 0.5% to 1%.

Data indicated that Germany’s unemployment rate rose more than anticipated in September, with the number of individuals without jobs increasing by 12,000 from August, significantly exceeding the forecast of 1,000. This was preceded by an increase of 5,000 in August. In September, the unemployment rate held steady at 6.4%. The rate aligned with projections. Data indicated that the adjusted jobless rate remained unchanged at 4% in August.

In August, the labour force survey indicated that the number of unemployed individuals reached 1.76 million, reflecting an increase of 9,000 from the previous month of July. The unadjusted jobless rate increased to 4.3% in August, up from 3.9% in the previous year. Germany’s retail sales experienced a monthly increase of 1.3% in August, marking a reversal from the 3.2% decline observed in July, according to data. Sales were projected to increase by 1.6%. On a yearly basis, retail sales experienced a decline of 0.4%, a deceleration compared to the 2.2% drop observed in July.
