German stocks exhibited volatility on Thursday, oscillating between gains and losses as investors responded to a series of earnings announcements while evaluating the potential ramifications of the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict on global economic growth. Investors also processed the Federal Reserve’s decision to maintain interest rates. There exists a degree of uncertainty regarding forthcoming policy, as three members of the FOMC have reportedly expressed dissent in favour of an increase in interest rates.

The United States executed additional strikes on Iran on Wednesday, escalating a conflict that has persisted for five months and is now extending beyond its primary theatres, involving more nations throughout the region. The most recent escalation occurred following a drone attack on a U.S.-owned petrol storage tanker at Egypt’s Mediterranean port of Damietta, alongside missile strikes by Iran aimed at U.S. troops stationed in Jordan. The benchmark DAX, which climbed to 25,511.53 from an early low of 25,295.00, was down 8.67 or 0.03% at 25,457.43 nearly half an hour past noon.

  • Symrise experienced an increase exceeding 5%. Infineon Technologies and MTU Aero Engines experienced increases of 3% and 2.8%, respectively. Siemens experienced an increase of 2.3%.
  • Brenntag, Continental, Hochtief, Fresenius Medical Care, E.ON, and Mercedes-Benz experienced gains ranging from 1% to 1.8%.
  • BMW advanced 1.5% following the announcement of a profit margin from its automotive business that exceeded expectations for the second quarter.
  • Adidas experienced a decline of 17.5% following increased marketing expenditures related to the football World Cup, which led to quarterly profits falling short of expectations.
  • Rheinmetall experienced a decline of approximately 2.3%. Airbus, Qiagen, Deutsche Bank, Zalando, Scout24, Deutsche Telekom, and Siemens Healthineers experienced declines ranging from 1% to 2%.
