German stocks advanced Friday as major European markets benefited from alleviated concerns regarding artificial intelligence expenditures, supported by robust earnings from technology firms. The DAX benchmark index ascended to 25,891.28, reflecting an increase of 207.72 points or 0.81%, reaching 25,788.22 by midday trading.
- Infineon Technologies emerged as the top performer, registering a 6% increase. Siemens Energy experienced an increase of 3.2%, whereas RWE and Hochtief each saw gains of around 2.5%. Airbus experienced an increase of nearly 2%.
- MTU Aero Engines, Merck, Siemens, Commerzbank, and Rheinmetall experienced increases between 1.2% and 1.7%.
- Fresenius Medical Care, E.ON, Allianz, and Deutsche Boerse experienced slight upticks.
- Decliners encompassed Symrise, Gea Group, Scout24, and Deutsche Telekom, which experienced a decline of 2% to 2.5%. Heidelberg Materials experienced a decline of nearly 2%.
- Qiagen, Brenntag, Volkswagen, BMW, Adidas, Beiersdorf, and Zalando experienced a decline ranging from 0.5% to 0.9%. Puma experienced a decline of roughly 6% attributed to diminished sales in the second quarter.
- Hensoldt, a manufacturer of sensors and radar, experienced a decline of approximately 2.7% as investors engaged in profit-taking following recent gains.
Germany’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 6.4% in July, up from 6.3% in June, surpassing the anticipated figure of 6.3%. In July, Eurozone inflation experienced an uptick, rising to 2.9% from the previous month’s 2.8%, as indicated by preliminary figures from Eurostat.
Rising energy and services costs were the primary drivers of the increase, consistent with market expectations. Core inflation, excluding energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco, increased to 2.5% from the prior rate of 2.4%. The harmonised index of consumer prices increased by 0.2% on a month-over-month basis in July.
