Germany’s equity benchmark DAX declined to a level not seen in nearly nine weeks on Thursday, as stocks experienced a downturn driven by concerns over inflation and interest rates. This decline was exacerbated by high oil prices and rising bond yields, which are reflective of ongoing geopolitical tensions.

Brent crude front-month futures rose to $100.79 a barrel, reflecting an increase of nearly 3%. The yield on Germany’s 10-year bond increased to 3.650% before declining to approximately 3.615%, remaining slightly elevated compared to the previous close. The DAX, which experienced a decline to 24,831.68 earlier, was down 164.74 points or 0.65% at 25,034.45 recently.

  • Bayer declined by approximately 2.8%, Deutsche Bank decreased by 2.3%, and Fresenius fell by 2%.
  • Zalando, Munich RE, Vonovia, SAP, Merck, and E.ON experienced declines ranging from 1.4% to 1.9%.
  • Adidas, Allianz, BASF, Hannover RE, Beiersdorf, RWE, Rheinmetall, Deutsche Post, Siemens Healthineers, Commerzbank, GEA Group, Henkel, and Mercedes-Benz experienced a decline ranging from 0.6% to 1.3%.
  • Heidelberg Materials experienced an increase of 1.7%. Continental, Hochtief, and Infineon Technologies experienced an increase of 0.7% to 1%.

In economic news, the S&P Global Germany Manufacturing PMI was revised slightly higher to 53.9 in September 2026 from a preliminary of 53.8, indicating a slowdown from 54.3 in August, which represented the highest level since May 2022.
