The DAX 40 declined by 0.5% to approximately 25,870 on Wednesday, marking its lowest point in a week, reflecting a prevailing negative sentiment throughout Europe. The ongoing conflict between the US and Iran regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz has intensified, resulting in a further increase in oil prices and heightening concerns surrounding inflation and interest rates.

The US military reported the destruction of five Iranian crude oil tankers, with one of them being sunk, as a response to Tehran’s assault on a US warship. Meanwhile, the ECB is anticipated to increase rates by 25 basis points tomorrow, with additional hikes likely before the end of the year. Industrials that consume significant energy and banking institutions were among the sectors most adversely affected. Rheinmetall experienced a decline of 3%, positioning it as the least favourable performer and negating the previous day’s gains.

Beiersdorf experienced a decline of nearly 2% following Deutsche Bank’s decision to downgrade the stock from “Hold” to “Sell.” Deutsche Börse experienced a decline of 1.7% as investors responded to the announcement of its intention to issue a €600 million convertible bond aimed at financing general corporate purposes and liabilities.
