TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
Retail sales in Germany went up 0.3 percent from a month earlier in February of 2022, below market expectations of a 0.5 percent increase. After turnover had declined in December 2021, retail trade recovered in the first months of 2022 although the so-called “2G” regulation, which restricts access to shops, still applied. Sales of food were almost unchanged while non-food sales rose 0.9 percent, with those in department stores surging 8.4 percent and online and mail-order sales up 1.8 percent. On the other hand, sales of textiles, clothing, shoes and leather goods decreased by 0.6 percent.
