The yield on the German 10-year Bund surged past 0.34%, the highest since November 2018 as risk appetite returned ahead of a new round of ceasefire talks between Russia and Ukraine and key central bank meetings later in the week. Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to Ukraine’s president and a participant in the talks, said that Ukraine’s objectives were to secure a cease-fire, the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine and security guarantees. Meanwhile, the US Federal Reserve and the Bank of England are set to deliver at least a quarter-point rate hike later in the week after last week the ECB said it may end asset purchases in Q3 as surging inflation more than offset concerns about Russia’s shock invasion of Ukraine.
