The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany plummeted by 93.6 points to -39.3 in March of 2022, the lowest since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, below market expectations of 10. This was the biggest drop in expectations since the survey began in December 1991. Expectations for the inflation rate in Germany jump by 107.7 points to a new value of 70.2 points. The assessment of the economic situation in Germany also declined to -21.4 from -8.1, compared to forecasts of -22.5. “The war in Ukraine and the sanctions against Russia are significantly dampening the economic outlook for Germany. The collapsing economic expectations are accompanied by an extreme rise in inflation expectations. The experts therefore expect a stagflation in the coming months. The worsened outlook affects practically all sectors of the German economy, but especially the energy-intensive sectors and the financial sector
