TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

The yield on the German 10-year recovered ground to -0.33% after the European Central Bank monetary policy meeting, where policymakers announced the end of PEPP net acquisitions by March 2022 and will gradually thin its long-term net asset purchases program to a monthly €20B by October 2022. Policymakers also said they would extend the reinvestment phase of the asset purchases program past the time when it starts raising interest rates, as long as it’s needed to maintain favorable liquidity conditions. At the same time, the Bank of England became the first major central bank to raise interest rates while the US Fed also said it would accelerate the tapering of its asset purchases, while eyeing rate hikes next year.
