Despite ongoing apprehensions regarding tensions in the Middle East, German equities experienced an upward trajectory on Friday, elevating the benchmark DAX from a near four-week low, bolstered by positive earnings reports and preliminary PMI data. A sharp drop in oil prices contributed to the market’s recovery.

Brent crude futures experienced a decline, initially falling to $96.40 a barrel before rebounding to $96.90. Nevertheless, this still represented a decrease of up to 3.7% from the previous close. The DAX increased by 250.17 points, reflecting a rise of 1.01%, reaching 24,959.50 around 12:15 PM.

  • SAP experienced a notable increase of 6.3% following the announcement of higher revenue in its most recent quarter. The company’s bottom line registered at EUR2.209 billion, translating to EUR1.89 per share. This compares with EUR1.749 billion, or EUR1.45 per share, from the previous year.
  • Siemens Energy experienced a firm increase of 2.3%. Siemens Healthineers, Commerzbank, Rheinmetall, Fresenius, Scout24, Deutsche Bank, Siemens, Deutsche Boerse, Heidelberg Materials, and Merck experienced increases ranging from 1% to 1.5%.
  • Volkswagen experienced a decline of 1.6% following the announcement of a second-quarter profit that fell short of expectations, alongside a reduction in its sales and car delivery forecasts for the year.
  • Adidas experienced a decline of approximately 2.3%, while Qiagen saw a reduction of nearly 1%. BASF, Deutsche Telekom, Brenntag, Bayer, and RWE experienced declines ranging from 0.4% to 0.7%.

In economic news, the S&P Global Flash Germany Composite PMI increased to 51.2 in July 2026 from 49.5 in June, surpassing forecasts of 49.8. It represents the highest reading in four months, indicating a return to growth in private sector activity following three consecutive months of contraction. Germany’s S&P Global Manufacturing PMI increased to 52.2 in July 2026, up from 50.3 in June, significantly surpassing market expectations of 50.5, based on a preliminary estimate.

Meanwhile, the S&P Global Flash Services PMI increased to 49.6 in July 2026 from 48.6 in June, reaching a four-month high and surpassing market expectations of 49, based on preliminary estimates. A report indicated that Germany’s GfK Consumer Climate Indicator decreased to -29.6 as August approached, down from a revised -29.3 in July. This figure remains at a low level and falls short of expectations for an improvement to -28.5.
