The benchmark DAX increased by 74.85 points, reflecting a rise of 0.31%, reaching a level of 23,994.47. The German market shows a slight increase on Monday, following a U.S. appeals court decision declaring that numerous tariffs imposed by Donald Trump were unlawful. Healthcare stocks are gaining traction following the announcement that Novo Nordisk’s weight-loss drug Wegovy provides superior heart-protective benefits compared to competing treatments.

The 7-4 decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld a lower court’s conclusion that Trump had overstepped his authority by utilizing emergency economic powers to implement extensive duties. The judges have permitted the tariffs to remain effective until mid-October, providing Trump with the opportunity to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court. Dutch pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk announced that Wegovy reduced the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death by 57% compared to Eli Lilly’s competing medications, Mounjaro and Zepbound, in a real-world analysis.

In economic news, data recorded a reading of 49.8 in August 2025, which is slightly below the flash estimate of 49.9 but an improvement from 49.1 in July. The reading indicated the highest level since mid-2022, when the index initially fell below the 50.0 mark that distinguishes growth from contraction. The unemployment rate in the euro area experienced a slight decrease in July.

The unemployment rate stood at 6.2% in July, down from 6.3% in June. Last year during this same period, the unemployment rate stood at 6.4%. Eurostat reported a decrease of 170,000 in the number of unemployed individuals, bringing the total to 10.805 million in July. In comparison to the previous year, there was a decrease of 161,000 in unemployment figures.
