TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
Germany’s benchmark Bund yield tumbled to 0.2% from an over 3-year high of almost 0.3% hit on February 11th, as investors rushed for safety after the US warned that Russia could invade Ukraine at any time. Also, dovish statements from ECB officials also calmed European bond markets. ECB Governing Council member Ignazio Visco said the central bank will keep a flexible approach as it loosens monetary policy, and Ireland’s central bank chief Gabriel Makhlouf told the Financial Times that a rate hike in June looked “very unrealistic” to him. Money markets see a 10bps rate hike at the June meeting and anticipate about 50bps in increases by year-end.
