TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
New orders for German manufactured goods increased 2.8% mom in December of 2021, following a downwardly revised 3.6% rise in November and well above market forecasts of a 0.5% gain. Orders were up for consumer goods (5.3%), intermediate (4.1%) and capital goods (1.8%). Domestic orders surged 11.7% while external orders went down 3%, namely from the Euro Area (-4.2%). Compared with February 2020, the month before restrictions were imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic in Germany, new orders were 9.8% higher.
