TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Germany edged down for a fourth consecutive month to 5.1% in January of 2022, a fresh pre-pandemic low, from 5.2% in December and below forecasts of 5.2%. The number of unemployed decreased by 48K to 2.345 million, the lowest since March 2020. “The job market got off to a good start in 2022,” said Daniel Terzenbach, a senior official at the Labour Office, despite a rise in the number of coronavirus infections in the country.
