TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
Germany’s benchmark Bund yield rose to -0.22% on Wednesday, the highest in near three weeks as investors bet on an ECB rate hike next year amid fears about runaway inflation and following stronger than expected PMIs data earlier in the week. On the political front, Germany’s Social Democrats, Greens and Free Democrats announced at a press conference Wednesday in Berlin that they have finalized a deal on a governing coalition. Christian Lindner, the head of the FDP, is expected to be tapped as finance minister. On the economic data front, German business morale weakened for the fifth month to a 7-month low and by more than expected amid supply shortages and virus fears. Meanwhile, bond investors continue to monitor the recent surge of Covid-19 across the continent, with Germany weighing stricter Covid curbs and a partial lockdown.
