TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

Germany’s benchmark Bund yield fell below -0.14%, moving further away from an over two-year peak of -0.07% hit on October 22nd, as investors await Thursday’s European Central Bank policy meeting. The central bank is expected to leave monetary policy unchanged, and to postpone a decision about the future of its pandemic emergency bond purchase programme to December, while ECB President Lagarde should reiterate once again the recent spike in inflation is temporary. Meanwhile, money markets have recently priced in a full 10 basis point rate hike by the ECB by the end of next year. Elsewhere, the US Federal Reserve is seen reducing its massive bond-buying scheme in November, while the Bank of England could hike interest rates this year.
