TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
Germany’s benchmark 10-year Bund yield hit again 2.35%, the highest since November 2011 on expectations major central banks will hold plans to continue aggressive tightening. Investors brace for key US inflation data this week, after last week’s stronger-than-expected jobs report supported expectations for a fourth 75 bps rate hike by the Federal Reserve. That also triggered bets on further ECB rate increases as the region currently faces two digits of inflation. ECB member and Bank of France’s head Francois Villeroy de Galhau was among the latest policymakers to echo the need to keep raising interest rates to bring inflation back down to the 2% target. In September, the central bank lifted interest rates by an unprecedented 75 bps and signaled further rate hikes in the coming meetings. Meanwhile, investors continue to access geopolitical tensions, after Russian forces ramped up shelling in western parts of Ukraine.
