TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
European stocks were slightly lower on Tuesday, as momentum faltered after two strong consecutive sessions, as concerns about the economy were back in the spotlight amid news that a growing number of firms plan to cut back on spending and ongoing jitters about energy security in Europe. Reports that Apple plans on slowing hiring and spending in some units, following the footsteps of Amazon, Alphabet, and other tech giants, heightened growth woes and broadly pressured technology shares. Reporting before the bell, Volvo reported upbeat Q2 results, as higher prices helped the Swedish carmaker beat earnings forecasts. Meanwhile, investors awaited final estimates for inflation in the Eurozone as they geared up for the ECB to raise borrowing costs for the first time in 11 on Thursday. Domestically, the DAX inched lower by 0.4%, followed by a 0.2% decline in the Stoxx 600.
