TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
The GfK Consumer Climate Indicator in Germany fell to -8.1 heading into March of 2022 from -6.7 in February and much worse than market forecasts of -6.3, amid rising coronavirus infections early in February and high inflation. “Hopes for an improvement in prices at the beginning of the year have been dashed as the inflation rate is still at a high level. At the same time, mid-term prospects were much better as the government had decided to lift far-reaching pandemic restrictions. This gives reason to hope that consumers’ willingness to spend will return as a result. If this were supported by a moderate increase in prices, the consumer climate could finally recover again in the long term
.
