TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
Germany’s benchmark Bund yield hovered around -0.25%, not far from a 7-week low of -0.30% reached last week as the European Central Bank is expected to take longer than most central banks to normalize monetary policy. ECB president Christine Lagarde said on Monday that tightening monetary policy to curb inflation could choke off the eurozone’s recovery, and maintained that factors pushing prices higher would fade next year, in an increasing contrast from hawkish hints from other central banks. On the economic data front, second estimates confirmed the Euro area rebounded 2.2% in Q3 and the annual inflation rate in the Euro Area was confirmed at 4.1% in October, the highest since July 2008. Meanwhile, both Austria and the Netherlands announced lockdown measures and Germany is also due to meet next week to discuss tightening measures as infections started to peak.
