TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
Germany’s 10-year Bund yield jumped to -0.38% in early September, its highest level since July 19th, as signs are emerging that a European Central Bank may start to limit the emergency bond-buying. Eurozone inflation surged to a 10-year high in August and a few ECB policymakers made hawkish comments this week. ECB Governing Council member Robert Holzmann said on Tuesday the central bank should start considering scaling back emergency bond purchases; while official Klaas Knot said he expected the ECB to start reducing the pace of its emergency bond purchases at next week’s meeting, with a view to ending them in March. In addition, ECB Vice President Luis de Guindos told a Spanish newspaper on Wednesday that the bloc’s economy is growing quicker than expected, paving the way for eventual withdrawal of copious stimulus.
