TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
All major European bourses regained ground on Tuesday, with materials and financials leading gains among the region’s main markets after a dramatic rout in the prior session highlighted worries that the spread of the Delta variant of coronavirus would dent the economic rebound. Investors digested a batch of earnings reports while recent data showed the sharpest increase in German producer prices since 1982, adding to concerns about rising inflation. On the corporate front, UBS announced better-than-expected second-quarter profit while Alfa Laval’s core profit beat forecasts. Miners BHP Group and Anglo American also provided upbeat production numbers. Meanwhile, AB Volvo warned of further production disruptions due to chip shortages, and home appliances maker Electrolux reported a lower-than-expected second-quarter operating profit. Domestically, the benchmark DAX 30 bounced off two-month lows to end above the 15,200 level.
