TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
Germany’s 10-year Bund yield was little-changed at -0.26% in mid-June, not far from a seven-week low, amid expectations that the US Federal Reserve will probably maintain its dovish stance at its the two-day meeting. Elsewhere, the European Union received over €76 billion of initial demand for its bond issuance backing the EU recovery fund; while ECB officials continued to reiterate that there is no hurry to taper the central bank’s massive emergency stimulus. President Lagarde said Monday that monetary and fiscal stimulus should remain in place until there are clear signs that a “firm, solid and sustainable” economic recovery is underway. Last week, the central bank confirmed its very accommodative monetary policy stance and pledged to keep running its emergency bond purchases at a “significantly higher pace” than early this year.
