Germany reported 952 COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, the biggest daily increase since the outbreak began, as the country entered a stricter lockdown with schools and most shops closed nationwide. Europe’s largest economy also reported 27,728 new infections, compared to 20,815 on the corresponding day of the prior week. Elsewhere in Europe, the UK has been reporting more than 16 thousand cases for the last seven days and the government is being pressed to change the relaxation of rules over Christmas.
