TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

German new manufacturing orders increased 2.8 percent month-over-month in July 2020, the least since April, after an upwardly revised 28.8 percent gain in the previous month, and below market forecasts of a 5 percent rise. However, factory orders in July were 8.2 percent lower than in February, the month before restrictions were imposed. Foreign orders rose 14.4 percent, due to higher demand from both the Euro Area (7.3 percent) and other countries (19.2 percent). Meanwhile, domestic orders fell 10.2 percent. By category, demand was higher for both intermediate (9.5 percent) and consumer goods (0.2 percent), while demand of capital goods declined (-0.4 percent). In addition, new orders in the automotive industry increased by 8.5 percent, but were still 2.4 percent lower than in February. Year-on-year, factory orders dropped 7.3 percent
