Germany’s retail sales unexpectedly fell by 0.9 percent month-over-month in July 2020, after an upwardly revised 1.9 percent drop in June and compared to market expectations of a 0.5 percent gain. Year-on-year, retail sales rose 4.2 percent in July, following a 5.9 percent rise in the previous monthh. However, retail sales in July were 0.9 percent higher than in February, the month before the coronavirus outbreak.
