The DAX Futures is trading at 15,704.00 with a loss of -0.04% or -7.00 point. The FTSE 100 Futures is trading at 7,348.00 with +0.14% percent or +10.50 point. The CAC 40 Futures is trading at 7,025.50 with a loss of -0.50% percent or -35.50 point. The EURO Stoxx 50 Futures trading at 4,237.00 with a loss of -0.05% percent or -2.00 point.
TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
The yield on the German 10-year bund rebounded to -0.32%, from a 13-week low of -0.394 hit last week as investors focused on positive news regarding the new COVID-19 variant and shrugged off the possibility of tougher restrictions in the UK. Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccines offer similar protection to the omicron variant with three shots as two doses did against the delta variant but the new variant may spread faster and could lead to more mutations in the future. At the same time, media reports stated the UK could roll out stricter COVID-19 rules this week, including mandatory health passes to access large venues. On the monetary policy front, ECB vice-president Luis de Guindos said Eurozone inflation will take longer to ease down to target than previously anticipated but price growth would begin to decelerate in 2022. Finally, the Reichstag officially approved Olaf Scholz as the federation’s next Chancellor, ending Merkel’s 16-year rule.
