Germany’s 10-year Bund yield hovered around -0.2% in early July, not far from a one-month high of -0.146% hit in June, as investors digested a batch of economic data released this week and awaited a key US job report due Friday, which could affect the Federal Reserve’s policy stance. The manufacturing PMI survey showed the Eurozone factory activity expanded at a record pace in June and the bloc’s annual inflation rate eased to 1.9%, in line with forecasts and right on the ECB’s target of “below but close to 2%”. Also, Germany’s retail sales rebounded in May and unemployment levels fell more than expected in June due to the easing of restrictions. Elsewhere, ECB officials have been signaling there is no hurry to taper the central bank’s massive emergency stimulus; while US Fed Chair Jerome Powell said that the recent spike in prices would likely to be temporary, and that the central bank would not raise interest rates until there are signs of a solid economic recovery.
